Next up, we'll explore the morning routine of Aishwarya Iyer, founder and CEO of a renowned olive oil brand.

While we all dream of quick fixes for kitchen challenges, the reality is there are no shortcuts. However, if you're short on time or just starting your culinary adventure, equipping yourself with reliable methods and quality ingredients can be effective and motivating. Just like having sharp knives and great cookbooks, we swear by high-quality olive oil as a key ingredient that elevates meals from ordinary to unforgettable. Our love for premium olive oil truly blossomed when we came across the innovative brand and its passionate founder.

One glance at the brand's website and you can't help but feel inspired. The vibrant designs and cheerful messaging celebrate beautifully crafted food products, including vinegar and honey. Iyer's enthusiasm for ethically sourced, delicious food is infectious.

Transitioning from public relations and startups to launching her own brand, Iyer has received accolades from chefs and food enthusiasts, with her venture gaining recognition since its inception in 2018. Clearly, both she and her brand are on an upward trajectory.

We chatted with Iyer about her significant career change, her essential morning rituals, beauty favorites, and, naturally, all things olive oil.

What attracted you to olive oil?

Upon discovering the longstanding issues within the olive oil sector, I felt compelled to make a difference, although I was uncertain of how to proceed. Relocating to California, I aimed to promote exquisite, American-made extra virgin olive oil. That marked the beginning of my journey.

What insights have you gained from such a monumental career shift?

Having a background in fast-paced startups, I applied lessons learned about adaptability and embracing discomfort in my new venture. My former focus on sharing untold stories made this transition feel seamless.

Overcoming intense self-doubt and fear took time; it was a journey of more than 18 months to feel confident enough to leap forward and confront my insecurities. Initially, I struggled for credibility, but gradually I managed to conquer those hurdles.

What guidance would you offer to someone contemplating a similar transition?

Maintain a healthy sense of naïveté, and recognize that your path is uniquely yours. Although it's beneficial to learn from other entrepreneurs, your journey will differ from theirs.

Describe a typical day in your life.

I start my day with a subliminal message, a dog walk, hydration with hot water, breakfast, and some form of exercise. After that, each day presents new challenges, whether it's collaborating with my team, engaging suppliers, coordinating with farms, strategizing new product launches, or planning photoshoots.

Evenings are usually dedicated to cooking, often featuring a vegetable-rich dish with herbs and my brand's oil. I unwind with a glass of wine, diving into a book or catching up on a show.

What does breakfast look like for you?

I kick off my day with a cup of hot water, followed by toast topped with tomato, black pepper, salt, and a drizzle of basil oil.

What habits promote your health and wellness?

I enjoy long walks to breathe in fresh air and clear my mind. It's crucial for me to distance myself from screens and ensure I get a full night's rest.

What's your essential cooking tool?

The Spout is perfect for easy pouring and complements all our bottles. Additionally, I'd suggest a mortar and pestle for guacamole and spice grinding. For beginners, Material Kitchen's reBoard is a lightweight, easy-to-clean cutting board available in fun colors.

Which cookbooks do you love and why?

À Table by Rebekah Peppler is delightful, with beautiful recipes that transport me to Paris through its charming photos.

Vibrant India by Chitra Agrawal resonates with my memories of my mother's South Indian cooking.

Super Natural Simple by Heidi Swanson features vibrant, straightforward, and delicious recipes typical of California cuisine.

What pantry staples do you always have?

Fridge staples include vinegars, Tomato Achaar, and Greek yogurt.

In my pantry, I ensure I have garlic oil, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, Cobanero Chili Flakes, and smoked paprika.

How can people incorporate more olive oil into their daily diets?

Olive oil is delicious on its own! It can also enhance dishes like dates, ice cream, dressings, or serve as a finishing touch for many meals.

Is it better to cook with olive oil or enjoy it raw?

It varies with quality; high-quality olive oil can be used for cooking due to its adequate smoke point.
