Explore the world of cars, tailored for women. Whether you're in the market to buy a new ride or sell your current one, this episode is for you!

Since our launch in 2016, we've aimed to empower women with financial knowledge and confidence. Unfortunately, many women have faced condescension regarding their financial savvy, whether it's from advisors or even friends and family. Sadly, this issue extends beyond finance. Many industries have historically been male-dominated, leading to uncomfortable situations when women assert their knowledge or negotiate. This week, we delve into a similar arena: the automotive world.

The consumer price index for both new and used vehicles has surged 30% since March 2020, bringing car prices to unprecedented levels. Currently, the average price for new cars exceeds $42,000, and used cars are around $25,000, often with about 70,000 miles, according to Cox Automotive. Women play a significant role in this market, purchasing or co-purchasing 85% of all cars — we directly buy 65% and influence another 20%, collectively spending $500 billion annually.

In this episode, we chat with Scotty Reiss, the founder and CEO of A Girls Guide to Cars. Her platform empowers women to be informed and confident car owners since its inception in 2013, now reaching nearly 2 million consumers monthly. Interestingly, 35% of their audience is male!

Tune in as Scotty and I discuss the reasons behind the rising car prices and whether they might decrease soon. We also address the ongoing challenges women face in car dealerships and repair shops, often feeling sidelined.

We provide a step-by-step guide for women looking to buy new, buy used, or sell their vehicle. This includes tips on where to search, effective negotiation strategies, warning signs to be aware of, and how to snag a great deal.

Scotty shares, "Every feature, whether it's leather seats or a sunroof, can range from a Mercedes Benz priced at $140,000 to a Kia for $20,000, illustrating the vast price spectrum available." We also discuss the realities of buying versus leasing.

In our Mailbag segment, we address inquiries about vehicles affected by natural disasters and the importance of saving for retirement in your 30s while considering the FIRE movement. Plus, we share insights on balancing a full-time job with a side hustle without risking your primary employment.
