Food has always played a vital role in Catherine McCord's life. Raised with her grandparents, she learned to can and cook, which shaped her culinary journey. However, her path to becoming a successful entrepreneur with two groundbreaking ventures was not a straight line. Initially, Catherine worked as a model, gracing runways and covers globally. Like many entrepreneurs, she began her journey by addressing a challenge that resonated with many.
For parents, encouraging kids to explore new flavors can be quite a task, especially when it comes to incorporating healthy options. As a new mother, Catherine faced the dilemma of feeding her baby nutritious meals that were also simple and tasty, a challenge she found difficult to navigate.
With her culinary education from the Institute of Culinary Education, Catherine created Weelicious and later One Potato. Her culinary creativity led to the success of providing families with healthy, delicious meals. This achievement has garnered a level of acclaim that many dream of.
Catherine is a go-to expert for family-friendly meals, and today she shares her daily rituals that help her maintain mindfulness, presence, and a constant flow of inspiration. (Spoiler: Smoothies are her secret weapon for all-day energy.) Let’s explore her routine.

What inspired the beginning of Weelicious?
I grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, where my grandparents dedicated themselves to growing and harvesting their own food. I helped them freeze, can, and pickle, which introduced me to fresh produce early on. My modeling career allowed me to travel, where I became intrigued by the culinary practices in various cultures—particularly the time and pride people invest in preparing meals with loved ones.
Encouraging Kids to Try New Foods
If your child is hesitant about trying new foods, avoid labeling them as picky. Instead, foster confidence as they experiment with new flavors. While it can be a challenge, investing patience is worthwhile for their growth.

Standing Out in a Crowded Market with One Potato
I aimed to provide families with organic, semi-prepared meals that cater to various dietary preferences. My family enjoys One Potato weekly since we launched a few years ago. As a busy parent, it’s become essential for me.
Favorite Smoothie Recipes for Nutritional Boosts
I have numerous favorite smoothie recipes based on taste and nutritional needs! Our family loves Blue Majik, Bright Green, Golden Milk, Pregnancy, Immunity Booster, and Superfood Smoothies. For kids new to smoothies, Pink Milk or Blueberry Chia are great starters.

Describe a Typical Day in Your Life
I rise at 5:45 a.m., read the news online, and take my dog for a hike. I used to wake up later, but hiking early has significantly improved my mental and physical well-being. After returning around 7:20 a.m., I prepare breakfast for my kids, pack their lunches, and drive them to school. Each day varies, filled with meetings, filming, and creative opportunities.
Your Morning Routine Essentials
First thing, I drink water and check three online news sites.
Changes in Your Morning Routine During Quarantine
While building One Potato and spending time with my kids, I neglected exercise for five years. When lockdown began, my husband and I committed to daily workouts. I now aim to hike 5-6 days a week and do Pilates with a friend twice a week.

Your Morning Beauty Routine
I frequently switch up my beauty products, enjoying trying out new brands. My skin tends to be quite dry, so I seek moisturizing options.
This body oil from OSEA is a favorite of mine; it hydrates without a greasy feel.

Preferred Bath or Shower Products
I indulge in a Dr Teal’s or Kneipp salt bath when I have time, though I usually shower. My daily routine includes Iles Formula or Monday products, along with Earth Tu Face Salt Scrub.
What’s on Your Nightstand for a Smooth Morning?
A tall glass of Calm.

Typical Breakfast Choices
I often start my day with a smoothie packed with berries for fiber. Each smoothie includes collagen peptides for healthy skin, hemp or chia seeds for added fiber, and protein powder for fullness—I love the flavor!

Media Rituals in the Morning
I avoid social media first thing and focus on news and podcasts during my hikes. I typically begin with The Daily and then listen to How I Built This, Second Life, or Pivot.
Favorite Reads
I enjoy many parenting books, such as No-Drama Discipline and The Yes Brain.
No-Drama Discipline: The Whole-Brain Way to Calm the Chaos and Nurture Your Child’s Developing Mind
The Yes Brain: How to Cultivate Courage, Curiosity, and Resilience in Your Child
Your Favorite Getting-Ready Soundtrack
“Move Your Feet” by Junior Senior has been my recent jam. I have a fun, upbeat Spotify playlist that I play constantly.

Your Daily Uniform
In the mornings, I usually wear Athleta leggings, vintage tees, and Clare V sweatshirts, which have become my go-to outfit. For meetings or filming, I prefer fun sweaters with Anine Bing jeans, Natalie Martin dresses, and items from Rent the Runway for variety. When attending meetings, I opt for blazers and slacks. After a long period at home, I’ve enjoyed wearing heels, stylish boots, and comfy flats like Rothy’s.

What Would You Do with an Extra Hour Each Morning?
If I had extra time, I’d spend it organizing; it brings me joy.
Daily Practices for Presence
Most evenings, we gather for family dinners, sharing about our day to connect meaningfully. I read 2-3 books with my youngest daughter and cuddle afterward. My older children and I watch movies or series together, currently going through all the James Bond films, which my oldest daughter loves. Connecting with my children fills my heart.
Key to Your Success
Hard work, passion, and determination have been essential to my journey.
