This chai hot toddy is a wonderful way to greet guests on a chilly day.


Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup apple cider
  • 2 organic chai tea bags
  • 3 small cinnamon sticks
  • 1 orange slice
  • Cayenne pepper
  • Fine pink Himalayan salt
  • 4 ounces (1/2 cup) bourbon
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

For serving:

  • Apple slices
  • Star anise

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, heat the cider and ½ cup of water until boiling. Add the tea bags, one cinnamon stick, the orange slice, and a pinch of cayenne and salt. Remove from heat, cover, and let steep for about 10 minutes.
  2. Return the saucepan to medium heat and warm until steaming. Off the heat, stir in the bourbon, lemon juice, honey, and vanilla.
  3. Pour into two mugs. Top each with an apple slice, a cinnamon stick, and star anise. Serve hot.

Mocktail Option:

  1. Skip the bourbon; add extra apple cider instead.
