Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 4 tbsp butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Zest of 1/2 orange
  • 3 eggs, at room temperature
  • 1/3 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/3 cup chopped hazelnuts
  • Toppings: melted chocolate, chopped hazelnuts, rose petals

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking soda. Set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the butter and sugars until crumbly. Stir in the vanilla and orange zest.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, then add the chocolate and hazelnuts. The dough will be sticky.
  6. Shape the dough into a 15-inch long, 3-inch wide log. Dipping your hands in water can help prevent sticking.
  7. Bake for about 30 minutes. Let cool for an hour.
  8. Lower the oven temperature to 325°F.
  9. Slice the cooled log into 1-inch wide cookies. Place them on their sides on the baking sheet.
  10. Bake for another 15-20 minutes until crisp. Allow to cool.
  11. Drizzle with dark chocolate and add desired toppings. Enjoy!
