'Being in a forest brings a sense of tranquility, thanks to the raw beauty of wood. I aim to capture that feeling in my designs,' shares Anna Møller, the 2025 Design Winner and founder of Anna Møller.Design. This philosophy drives her to utilize materials in their purest forms, including wood, jute, and weaving. 'I draw inspiration from ancient crafts, focusing on tactile elements reminiscent of the forest.'
After gaining experience at various studios, including David Collins, Anna launched her own practice in 2020. Though she operates solo, she believes that collaboration is pivotal to her achievements. 'Clients approach me for the trust and camaraderie, and I want them to enjoy the journey,' she explains. 'Interior design is a luxury, but it can be stressful. I strive to make it enjoyable by involving clients in the fun aspects, like selecting colors and materials, while shielding them from the stressors.'
Her project in Earl's Court showcases a refined take on her signature raw style. 'With clients having twin boys, I understood the need for a clean look,' she notes. Anna currently splits her time between London and Surrey.
4 Design Principles from Anna Møller
1. Emphasize Cozy Lighting
Opt for dimmable warm white lighting. Incorporate table lamps and wall lights to create a warm ambiance, perfect for gatherings or intimate dinners. Place lamps in unique spots, like shelves or coffee tables, and explore rechargeable options.
2. Favor Craftsmanship Over AI
While AI has simplified interior design, many results can appear bland. Sourcing handcrafted items, whether local or international, imbues spaces with character and stories that AI can't replicate. Look for unique pieces like dining tables or cabinets that resonate with personal significance.
3. Introduce Character Without Cluttering
To blend traditional and modern styles, focus on thoughtful details. Consider adding wall paneling, beading, or intricately designed cornices. Maintaining a consistent or tonal color scheme helps create a peaceful atmosphere rather than a chaotic one.
4. Consider Hiring an Interior Designer
If decision fatigue is overwhelming or time is tight, an interior designer can be invaluable. Understanding the luxury of this service, I prioritize building genuine connections. My goal is to make the design process enjoyable from start to finish, ensuring that my clients feel at ease and excited about their spaces.
