Soft Grey-Green

Neutrals remain a staple, but designers are moving away from typical whites and grays. “While white cabinets have fallen out of favor, many aren’t ready to embrace bold colors,” says Los Angeles designer Stefani Stein. She highlights the appeal of soft shades that carry a hint of color.

Stein particularly favors soft grey-green as a refreshing substitute for standard neutrals. “I’m drawn to tints that add color while maintaining a serene, classic feel,” she reveals. “One of my top picks is Mizzle by Farrow & Ball,” she shares. “It’s a delicate grey-green, reminiscent of celadon pottery.”

Delaware designer Katie Winnington from C&E Furniture and Design favors cool greys as an alternative to classic neutrals. She’s currently captivated by Sherwin Williams Gossamer Veil. “This hue offers a subtle earth tone twist to traditional grey or beige and pairs beautifully with brass accents,” she notes.

Winnington believes this shade has lasting appeal. “It’s timeless and not overly trend-focused, allowing flexibility with other hardware and countertop options,” she explains. “Be cautious with light colors, as they may overshadow Gossamer Veil,” she advises.

White Oak

Goodbye, dark finishes. A lighter, minimalist alternative is gaining traction among designers. Leanne Ford expresses her preference for white oak, but emphasizes execution. “Traditionally, white oak cabinets look best in their natural state, but sealing often leads to unwanted yellowing,” she explains.

Ford has collaborated with Semihandmade to create a cabinet line that addresses this issue. “We developed an ideal way to seal white oak, preserving its stunning natural beauty,” she states. These cabinets can be paired with IKEA options for an affordable custom look.

Bold Rich Green

“Color is making a strong comeback and is here to stay,” asserts Los Angeles designer Kerry Vasquez, moving away from minimalism. She envisions “a rich green like Benjamin Moore’s Essex Green” as the next big kitchen cabinet hue. “It’s vibrant yet grounding, sophisticated but fun,” she describes. “It’s colorful enough to stand out but subtle enough to avoid overwhelming a space.”

“If you opt for bold cabinet colors, I suggest keeping other elements neutral,” she advises. “You can still incorporate color while maintaining neutrality—consider light pinks, wood tones, and terracottas.”
