This time of year brings so much joy, filled with two months of baking and cooking for those I cherish.

It's all about crafting delightful dishes while hosting my favorite people for some cherished moments. Although I enjoy fancy gatherings, I prefer simplicity, especially when it comes to minimizing cleanup afterward.

Now, let me introduce the simplest appetizer you can prepare.

baked feta for a cheeseboard

You know I can't resist a well-crafted cheeseboard. It's about selecting top-notch ingredients that can shine individually or blend perfectly together. While assembling a cheeseboard may seem daunting, I often find I have most items handy in my kitchen. Mixed nuts are always available, dried fruits usually linger in my pantry, and I always keep crackers or bread on hand.

Although I never say no to a cheeseboard any time of year, I love elevating my offerings during the holidays, making even casual get-togethers feel special.

This upgraded cheeseboard featuring baked feta has quickly become a favorite.

This dish is incredibly easy to prepare, looks stunning, and tastes divine. Plus, this feta elevates a cheeseboard or serves as a perfect standalone appetizer.

To prepare, simply place a block of feta in a baking dish, drizzle with olive oil, and add herbs, lemon, and capers before baking! Though feta isn't typically melty, baking transforms it into a creamy, spreadable delight. The saltiness of the cheese softens, while the rich olive oil, tangy capers, and citrus add vibrant flavors.

Description

Baked Feta: The Easiest Appetizer for Your Holiday Gatherings

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 8-ounce block of feta cheese
  • juice from 1/2 lemon
  • 1/2 lemon, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons of capers
  • 2 sprigs of rosemary
  • a pinch of salt and pepper
  • red pepper flakes (optional)
  • approximately 1/2 cup of quality olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a small oven-safe dish, place the block of feta cheese.
  3. Top the cheese with lemon juice, lemon slices, capers, rosemary, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes.
  4. Drizzle the olive oil over the top, ensuring the cheese is well-coated, but it doesn't need to be fully submerged.
  5. Put the dish in the oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes. (Optionally, you can use the broiler for five minutes to achieve a golden-brown finish, but this step is not necessary).
  6. Once done, remove from the oven and serve warm with crackers, crostini, or other preferred options. Enjoy!
